There are a wide range of options if you’re looking to protect the electronics in your home or office. The most common is going to be a surge protector, but there are other great options as well. Perhaps the most common behind a surge protector is going to be a UPS.
Not only can it protect devices from unexpected power interruptions, but it can also sustain power to connected products for just enough time to get everything shut down properly. And while a UPS can be expensive, we recommend starting out with something simple and more affordable.
Simple and reliable
CyberPower is a brand that has been offering UPS battery backups for at least a couple of decades now, and is one of the go-to brands in this space. As you can imagine, there are plenty of different models to choose from, but the SL700U is going to be a good starting point that also doesn’t hurt your wallet.
The SL700U comes in a slim design and packs eight outlets and two USB ports. Five of the outlets will be protected and connected to the internal battery that can supply up to 700VA/370W, while the other three will only be protected from surges. It’s important to set up the software in order to have your connected devices shutdown on their own when you’re not around.
How much time will I have?
Well, this is all going to depend on the products you have connected and running at the time the battery backup needs to kick in. CyberPower states that at full load this battery backup should last up to two minutes, and half load you can expect up to nine minutes.
Again, this is going to depend on what’s connected, so it’s important to test everything before you have a power emergency. If this doesn’t meet your needs, you can always upgrade to something larger. But be prepared to pay a lot more. For $90, this CyberPower battery backup isn’t all that bad. So, give it a try if you want an added layer of protection.
