I am sitting on a train, looking โ or at least aspirationally looking โ in equal measures downward at my phone as well as to the horizon. The sun is rising above the hills; yellow peeks through the light, low clouds.
Rain briefly fell. Standing, waiting for the train, I thought back to the affirmations I had been writing yesterday โ the rain will pass. I noticed the occasional raindrop fall delicately on my forehead.
I am listening to music by HAIM, one of the many artists I discovered through their collaborations with Taylor Swift. The really good part of this song is coming up โ the part where the tone changes and becomes brighter. I smile as the notes flow.

I brought a book with me for my journey, but I think I am going to listen to a podcast instead (after one more song or two; HAIM are so good!). Alan Alda, who acted in one of my favourite television shows โ The West Wing โ has a podcast that I have been enjoying; interviews about everything from linguistics to music to accompany me along my journeys.
The train is moving. The rain is lightening up. The world feels bigger. The song has changed. Morning is here.
