I’m not sure how many of you are familiar with SgtOwl or his Nautilus ship mod but it is in my top 5 favorite mods. That being said, I’ve decided on a new playthrough, this time as his daughter. I find this game much more enjoyable if I flush out a story and adhere to it. Here is hers.
(Side note, I’m finishing up my mod list and if anyone wants to see it, just let me know and I’ll post that as well)

•The Saga of Lyra Owl: Engineering a New Legacy •Character Profile Summary •Name: Lyra Owl •Age: Late 20s •Affiliation: Independent (formerly Freestar Collective Military), Active Member of the Trackers Alliance •Home Base: Akila City, Akila System Ship: The Nautilus (inherited, constantly upgraded) •Profession: Former FEC Lieutenant/Engineer, Xenobotanist, Owner of "OwlTech Prospecting & Research"
Part 1: The Weight of an Inherited Lie
Lyra Owl grew up largely separated from her father, Captain Elias Owl, a man who became a legend among independent spacers for fighting a "corrupt" Freestar Collective that he claimed betrayed his unit during the Colony War. Believing in his narrative, Lyra joined the FEC military engineering corps, achieving a Lieutenant rank equivalent, hoping to prevent systemic corruption from within. She developed an aptitude for analyzing alien flora and geological surveys, skills perfect for finding rare resources in remote systems. Akila City was her grounding point, its rugged individualism appealing to her solitary nature. The truth arrived in an inherited vessel. When her father vanished, the unique, submarine-inspired starship Nautilus was willed to her. In the captain’s quarters, she found a fragmented data slate containing raw comms logs. The "betrayal" was a fabrication; the real tragedy was a simple, tragic human error by a junior officer under pressure. Elias Owl spent years chasing a lie because he couldn’t accept human frailty. Devastated, Lyra honorably discharged from the military. She shed the allegiance to the lie, but kept her discipline and skills.
Part 2: The Engineer of Akila & In-Game Creation
Returning to her unofficial home in Akila City, Lyra founded OwlTech Prospecting & Research, a private enterprise built on the pursuit of objective data and honest work. Her new mission: build an honest legacy rooted in verifiable truth. She aligned deeply with the Trackers Alliance, giving her an official mandate to fight tangible injustices across the chaotic Settled Systems.
Background: Homesteader Provides core skills in Geology, Surveying, and Pistol Certification, matching her scientific and self-reliant nature. Trait 1 -Freestar Collective Settler: Aligns with her origins, military service, and roots in Akila City. Trait 2 -Introvert Reflects her solitary nature, scientific focus, and preference for independent outpost living. Trait 3 -Raised Enlightened Matches her search for factual truth and a grounded, scientific worldview over manufactured narratives.
Part 3: Frontier Operations and Preferred Style
Lyra uses the Nautilus, now her vessel of discovery, to explore the remote moons of the Cheyenne system and beyond. Her operations are enhanced by her engineering mindset and focus on practicality. Preferred Weapons: Precision and Reliability Lyra favors weapons that are practical and reliable, reflecting her military training and engineering mindset: •Primary Weapon: A Beowulf or Old Earth Hunting Rifle modified for accuracy and stealth, for handling threats at a distance during surveys. •Secondary Weapon (Sidearm): A Razorback pistol, a reliable Freestar sidearm for close encounters. •Utility Tool: A Cutter mining laser, always equipped for resource extraction and close-quarters defense against alien fauna.
Tangible Injustices: The Trackers Alliance Mandate
Lyra’s ethical compass demands she focus on clear, prosecutable crimes. As a Tracker, she pursues tangible injustices such as: •Apprehending wanted criminals with active bounties (focusing on "Wanted Alive" targets for accountability). •Stopping ship thieves and smugglers who harm legitimate citizens. •Pursuing aggressive mercenaries who commit unwarranted violence against settlers. •Exposing corporate malfeasance if she finds evidence that a bounty is an attempt to silence a truth-teller.
Part 4: Navigating Faction Conflicts
<Approach to other Factions/Stories>
Lyra’s journey through the core conflicts of the Settled Systems is driven by her quest for truth and accountability:
•The Mantis Legend: She pursues the Mantis quest, viewing its clear moral code as a contrast to her father’s corrupted path. •The UC Vanguard: She joins the UC Vanguard with skepticism, using her xenobiology expertise to confront the Terrormorph threat. This storyline allows her to expose deep, hidden government secrets and ensure accountability, mirroring her personal mission. •Ryujin Industries: She largely avoids the corporate world of Neon. The manipulation, corporate espionage, and blatant dishonesty fundamentally clash with her honesty-driven moral compass.
Lyra Owl is an independent engineer and scientist who flies the galaxy seeking data, not glory, striving always for objective truth and an honest legacy.
