By becoming a GoodMaker, your individual support is amplified to reach dozens of local charities and programs that keep our community thriving
As community needs grow and non-profits face increasing challenges, SooToday has committed to expanding our efforts to support, celebrate and uplift our hometown through our GoodWorks program.
Long before it had an official name, our GoodWorks programs have helped raise money and secure resources for local charities, stock food bank shelves, sparked moments of joy, celebrated inspiring accomplishments and shared stories of remarkable people making a difference in our community. Itโs been an inspiring start, offering proof of what is possible when local journalism and community action work hand in hand.
But behind every local grant, every reader-supported fundraiser and every story of kindness, thereโs one driving force that makes it all possible: the people who believe in it. The GoodMakers.
What if your contribution could support 10 things at once? That is the heart of the GoodMakers program. When you join our mission, your generosity is instantly amplified. We take your support and channel it into a wide-reaching network of change, powering match initiatives that double the reach of local charities, providing vital grants to grassroots organizations and telling the stories that inspire thousands more to take action.
You might already be a GoodMaker without even knowing it. If you have ever donated to a GoodWorks Match Initiative, shared a story of an inspiring local initiative, nominated someone for a Random Act of Kindness or Community Builders Award or supported our newsroom with a monthly contribution, you are already, unofficially, a GoodMaker.
โWe see ourselves now, more than ever, as a community impact organization,โ said Village Media CEO Jeff Elgie.
โThis spirit has always been in our DNA through years of community connection and support. What we are doing now is communicating very clearly that our readers do have an impact. They can be the spark that sets off good works in our community. GoodMakers creates a framework where every contribution strengthens our ability to support local causes, allowing us to channel collective resources back into the GoodWorks programs that matter most,โ said Elgie.
Every contribution from a GoodMaker stays local, helps fund local journalism and supports our efforts to empower community members and organizations to do their best work, amplifying their reach, awareness and fundraising efforts.
In the last year alone, the SooToday GoodWorks program has supported over 55 local non-profits and organizations through sponsorships, monetary contributions and fundraising match initiatives (including ARCH, Soup Kitchen Community Centre, St. Vincent Place, Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie, Meals on Wheels, Women in Crisis, Sault Area Hospital Foundation, United Way of Sault Ste. Marie, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sault Ste. Marie, SOYA, Harvest Algoma, Grocer 4 Good, Algoma Autism Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Sault Ste. Marie, to name a few).
Your support starts a ripple of change for Sault Ste. Marie.
To celebrate the introduction of our GoodMakers program, SooToday is inviting readers to join us for a launch event on Wednesday, February 11, where you can show your heart for Sault Ste. Marie and the many people and organizations working to make it a better place.
