Large Language Models (LLMs) are incredibly powerful at generating content, but they can have “hallucinations” (making up things with confidence) or give us outdated data, since they are “bound to the data they were trained on” (Julien, Hanza, and Antonio – LLM Engineer’s Handbook). In many cases, you may also want your LLMs to answer questions using your own documents or internal knowledge bases. Retraining models to achieve this is time and cost-consuming. That is where Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) becomes a practical solution. In this blog, we will build a Q&A bot using a RAG architecture, with the knowledge base stored in Amazon DynamoDB for non-production environments and Amazon OpenSearch for production workloads. The app is built using Kiro 🔥
