This is a reminder that racism is never passive. It organizes, recruits, and seeks legitimacy through politics, culture, and fear. In California, the Klan once gained disturbing influence in local government, including Anaheim, where membership rolls revealed that four councilmembers and nine out of ten police officers were tied to the group. Nationally, Klan activity has also been linked to political power, with researchers and historical reporting noting that the organization claimed influence over governors, senators, and members of Congress during its peak years. How many do you think hold power now? Today, estimates suggest about 5,000 to 8,000 Klan members remain active across the United States, spread across roughly 150 chapters, though the movement is far smaller than it once was.
