A Carbon Brief analysis of Ember data finds Asia generated 1,727 terawatt-hours from solar in the year to April 2026, narrowly above the 1,711 it pulled from gas — the first time solar has eclipsed gas anywhere in the region, with China driving nearly three-quarters of the growth.
