Estrogen impacts NOD2-dependent regulation of intestinal homeostasis (opens in new tab)
Crohn’s disease is associated with mutations in the innate immune receptor NOD2, but the mechanisms underlying NOD2 regulation of intestinal homeostasis remain unclear. This study shows that NOD2 interacts with estrogen to regulate intestinal homeostasis and suggests that hormonal signalling may contribute to the sex-specific pathogenesis of this disease.
