Rare meteorite points to lost early planet (opens in new tab)

A team led by Aaron Bell at the University of Colorado Boulder said meteorite Northwest Africa 12774 likely came from a previously unknown protoplanet shattered billions of years ago in the early solar system. The rock, discovered in the Sahara Desert in 2019, belongs to the rare angrite class of meteorites and weighs about one pound, or 454 grams.
