A meteor broke apart high over northeastern Massachusetts and southeastern New Hampshire on Saturday at 2:06 p.m. local time, setting off loud booms across parts of New England, NASA said. The agency estimated the breakup released energy equivalent to about 300 tons of TNT as the object traveled at about 75,000 mph, or more than 120,000 kph, at an altitude of roughly 40 miles.
