Anthropic hires OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy for pre-training team (opens in new tab)

Andrej Karpathy, an OpenAI founding member and former Tesla AI director, said May 19 that he had joined Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI models. Anthropic said Karpathy started this week on its pre-training team, led by Nicholas Joseph, another former OpenAI employee. Karpathy announced the move on X.
