Scientists documented the first direct observation of an Arabian Sea humpback whale crossing the Arabian Sea, after a female named Luban traveled from waters off Oman to the area of Goa, India, and back. The return trip covered about 7,000 kilometers, or roughly 4,300 to 4,350 miles, according to accounts of the study published June 19 in Frontiers in Marine Science.
