Oaxaca state prosecutors opened a homicide investigation after San Miguel Amatitlán Mayor Joel Ángel Bravo Martínez was shot dead Saturday, June 13, in Mexico’s southern Mixteca region. Authorities said Bravo led a municipality of about 6,900 to nearly 7,000 residents and belonged to the opposition National Action Party, or PAN.
