“Present Depths” was an essay submitted by Noel Ignatiev for a doctoral independent study at Harvard University in fall 1984. It was unearthed by Dylan Davis, a member of the Long-Haul editorial collective, in the Martin and Jessie Glaberman papers held at Wayne State University’s Walter P. Reuther Library.
