Job openings jump, but labor market stuck in 'low-hire, low-fire pattern' (opens in new tab)

The newly released JOLTS report showed an increase of more than 730,000 job openings, to 7.6 million in April. But there were just 5.1 million hires, and the hiring rate decreased 0.3% from the previous month to 3.2%.
