Taking part in sport offers more than just improved fitness or mental well-being for people with disability; it can also build confidence, independence and create a deeper sense of belonging in the community. Despite the well-known benefits, participation in sport by individuals with disability remains low. Around 5.5 million people live with a disability in Australia, but only 14% participate in sport at least once a week, compared with about 67% of Australians without disability.
