Spec-Driven Development: Everything Old Is New Again (opens in new tab)

Software engineering as we know it is being replaced. Not by AI. By specs. Entire teams will be replaced by "Given... When... Then... | claude". But this isn't new - we tried it with IDLs in the 90s, with BDD and Cucumber in the 2000s. The discipline is the same. The teams who got good at writing specs back then are about to do very well. The ones who didn't will need help, and soon.
