Locked out of brand- My new laptop (opens in new tab)

I just bought a brand new laptop and set it up for the first time, but after a Windows Update ran automatically I am now completely locked out of my own device. The computer boots up to a login screen that does not accept any password I try, and I never created a PIN or a Microsoft account during initial setup.
