Why is there no login box on the main screen of my Windows 10 system? (opens in new tab)

On my Windows 10 system, the main screen no longer displays the standard login box for entering my password or PIN, leaving me unable to sign in. Instead of the usual username and password fields, I only see a blank background or a lock screen that won’t progress to the login prompt.
