In any Revolutionary recollection, Virginia reckons dominantly in its contribution to the founding generation. A Virginian wrote the Declaration of Independence. A Virginian led the Continental Army to victory over the British. Virginia was the largest state at the Philadelphia Convention, and a Virginian was the chief architect of the Constitution it produced.
