Damage to a pipeline has led to pollution of the Caspian Sea. (opens in new tab)
An oil slick has been discovered between Pirallahi Island and the village of Dubendi in the Caspian Sea. It is believed to have been caused by an anchor damaging a pipeline. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan reported that oil supplies had been halted. Experts from the Transparent World project reported three possible sources of contamination in the Caspian Sea, two of which were in Russian territory.
