French Resistant fighter historian Marc Bloch join the Pantheon greats (opens in new tab)

He was a leading historian of the 20th-century, and co-founded French academic journal 'Les Annales' with Lucien Febvre, and was also a soldier in both World Wars. Historian Marc Bloch was tortured and executed by the Gestapo in 1944, and will enter the Pantheon on June 23 in a rare tribute reserved for France's most revered historical figures.
