‘We Finally Have Democracy’: Hungarians Erupt in Joy and Relief (opens in new tab)
Hungarians reacted with joy, disbelief and disappointment after the former prime minister, Viktor Orban, was defeated by Peter Magyar in an election on Sunday. The election was seen as a referendum on Orban’s 16-year tenure as the leader of this country on the eastern edge of the European Union and on the global nationalist revival that he and President Trump both promoted.
