I have assembled literally hundreds of these (I did in-store displays in Sam's and delivered and assembled for customers too). If it is close to smooth and level you can make it work. The panels need to be warm and pliable but not soft. It is a stupid balance. Also you have to be willing to twist and poke and prod the whole thing to make each pane go in and be square as you do it. 2 people are best and don't overtighten anything.
