For decades it has been debated in total knee arthroplasty what strategy for the patella is superior. Resurfacing in all cases, selective resurfacing, and resurfacing in none have been proposed and used. Contributions to evidence-based medicine have not made clear-cut claims of superiority of one approach possible, and the current diversity in practices relies primarily on local traditions.
