Austria extends flexible border-area controls with Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia for a further three months (opens in new tab)
Vienna has prolonged its mobile border-area controls with Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia until mid-September 2026, citing continued pressure from trafficking networks. The flexible patrols, in force since December, will remain in place despite EU calls to phase out internal Schengen checks, meaning cross-border commuters and freight operators must still expect spot inspections.
