Hey 👋
After a couple of weeks of hard work, the new version is now live. And, oh boy! This was a huge version: more than 30% of the codebase has been reworked. Thanks to that, performances are now even better: web version is getting smoother and smoother, while mobile version is using less battery.
The main topic of this version is the incident rework. Incidents have been present on the game since the beginning, however, they were pretty old: they were slow and did not scale well. Now, instead of managing buildings 1 by 1, we now manage them district by district: we now manage a group of buildings. This means that, incidents will behave the same, regardless if there is 1 building or 2000 buildings on the district.

The minigame has been completely changed: no more match-3! Instead, you now see the “city” with some tiles and you can see the squads fighting the incident. You can dispatch the squads around the city to improve the incident management efficiency. This new minigame now brings some strategic decisions to save your city.

In addition to this huge rework, a bunch of new features have been added, mostly to improve:
- Onboarding of new users
- Better tutorial to explain things
- A lot of shortcut everywhere to simplify the UI (and UX)
# Features
- Redesigned incidents with improved visuals and strategy. You can now see which city is affected and choose which buildings to save in a new strategic minigame. All incidents share the same mechanics but differ in behavior—epidemics spread more, while riots cause heavier damage. Incidents have also been rebalanced, so stronger defenses may be needed.
- Population need ratios now decrease gradually over time instead of dropping instantly when unmet.
- Population gain from fulfilled needs now uses rounding instead of flooring, resulting in smoother and slower population loss when needs are unmet, giving more time to react.
- Added new tutorial steps to help new players understand the game.
- Added option to choose the number of buildings to demolish.
- Added a new early-game achievement for new players.
- Added a button to repair damage caused by incidents.
- Added option to choose the number of ships to build at once.
- Added a shortcut on the overview page to access population needs.
- Added option to choose the number of ships to dismantle at once.
# Fixes
- Cancelled ship missions now progress while offline.
- Added limits to instant buy/sell inflation and deflation to prevent invalid negative values.
- Fixed audio not resuming correctly after rewarded ads on iOS.
- Fixed button overflow on smaller screens.
- Fixed occasional double estimation of imports and exports on the dashboard screen.
- Fixed issue allowing construction of protective buildings from a different island.
- Fixed luxury merchant route display issue.
- Fixed dashboard overview to include all imports and exports.
- Fixed resource ordering.
- Fixed rare issue where the population indicator failed to display the unit.
- Fixed UI to display law effects immediately instead of only after each governor selection.
- Fixed issue where some buttons did not use the main color.
# Others
- Reworked difficulty screen to better display differences between difficulty levels.
- Reworked onboarding screens.
- Tutorial now highlights key areas of the screen.
- Minor user interface enhancements.
- Added support for external music and podcast playback during gameplay.
- Added rounding to certain displayed numbers.
- Improved performance.
That was definitely not an easy version, probably one of the biggest of the game so far. I hope you’ll like it!
