It is overall not a great experience. Google at least has componantence (in my opinion) but it’s Google. Still properitary, still motivated by greed.
mega.nz has ads on their app (I’m unsure about their sites, all my browsers have adblock) and I’m uncomfortable with that form of monitization, especially when there’s paid tiers for their service.
I’m still an awful ways away from setting up a local NAS or something of that sort. But I believe I have a bandaid to the proble. Like a bandaid, it won’t fix an issue, but it’ll help it a little. I started the process of setting up hosted server on kai.nl.tab.digital.
I hope I can use to store md files (like the ones I use for this site) and all the files for my music blog and perhaps my git repositories.
For a NAS or something of that sort I’d like to store ripped CDs, movies, shows, and games onto it. Also ISOs, so I can install an OS over the network. I’m still far from doing that, but at least I’m somewhat content with the situation now.
I’m also planning on setting up some sort of email server at some point, sounds fun, we’re learning about a bit of that in class.
