When we sat down with Loops of Nature’s founder and CEO, Claes-Johan Roempke or CJ (as we like to call him), his story didn’t start with technology. It began on a farm outside Stockholm, where his family has worked the land for generations. Long before “sustainability” became a buzzword, his grandfather had already decided to stop using chemical pesticides after falling ill from exposure. That moment became a quiet legacy, a belief that caring for the land should never come at the cost of people or the planet.

“Profit doesn’t have to come at the expense of nature,” he reflected. “That mindset has been fueling me since long back.”

A Crisis Sparks an Idea

Years later, while studying economics and environmental management, a global event shifted his path entirely. The political tension around Ukraine and EUs energy dependency made him see how fragile our energy systems really are.

What started as a research curiosity, “how could we produce biogas more efficiently?”, became a full-blown mission. When he couldn’t find the answers he wanted in existing systems, he started designing his own.

That design became the foundation for Loops of Nature,** **and the start of a technological journey that blends environmental empathy with engineering precision.

Innovation that Feels Organic

Today, Loops of Nature is developing a system that mimics the natural world to produce biogas more efficiently. Instead of forcing a high-temperature environment, their system works in symbiosis with nature, optimizing with shifting seasons.

The result? Up to 40% greater energy efficiency and a process that feels more like a living organism than a mechanical plant. Fittingly, the core technology is called Loop Brain, an intelligent control system that adapts to changing conditions, keeping the process running at its best.

It’s biogas, but smarter, gentler, and far more in tune with the environment that fuels it.
