Asaaju Peter, the founder of Phemight Technologies and a prominent youth digital entrepreneur, has raised concerns over what he describes as unjust and unexplained account suspensions on the global freelance platform, Fiverr.

Peter stated that many young Nigerians and African freelancers rely on Fiverr as a primary source of income, yet some face sudden permanent account bans without clear reasons or transparent investigation processes.

He emphasized that this situation threatens the economic rights of freelancers who are working legitimately to earn a living online.

“Thousands of youths are using digital skills to survive in a challenging economy. When platforms suspend accounts without clear explanations, they are not just removing access—they are destroying livelihoods,” he said.

Peter further noted that while digital platforms have the right to enforce rules, such decisions should be accompanied by fair investigation, proper communication, and opportunities for appeal.

Digital economic analysts have also pointed out that transparency and fairness are key components of global digital work systems, especially in emerging economies where remote work has become a lifeline.

Peter called for greater advocacy and awareness to ensure African freelancers are treated fairly on international platforms, stressing that digital work must respect human rights, fairness, and economic dignity.
