Milwaukee Tool’s new M18 FUEL dual-trigger 4 1/2″-6″ electric angle grinder makes up to 5.8 hp – that’s the equivalent of 70 cc of ICE power to deliver faster cutting, fewer stalls, and up to 135 cuts on 1/2″ rebar on a single battery charge.
Angle grinders are incredibly versatile tools, but they can be a little intimidating for even the most seasoned construction pros. A single bad decision can lead to a disc failure that sends shrapnel in unpredictable directions at high speeds, which could lead to serious injuries.

That’s where this new Milwaukee M18 FUEL “braking grinder” comes in. It offers the same cutting, grinding, and beveling performance as other grinders, but packs plenty of built-in safety innovations designed to shield the operator from the consequences of bad decisions. Part of that is in the name – when the operator releases the trigger, the Milwaukee proprietary Rapidstop and the emergency AutoStop safety brakes halt the rotor immediately instead of letting it spin down.
That might be an issue for some of the graybeards on your job site, but Milwaukee is quick to point out that this new M18 FUEL cordless and their other dual trigger braking grinders will not replace any existing models. It’s simply an higher-tech option with additional high-end features that modern construction companies are looking for, that’s being offered in addition to models with standard and enhanced safety options.
About that tech
Your grinder is smarter than you now; via Milwaukee.
Milwaukee missed zero opportunities to stuff its new M18 FUEL angle grinders with branded tech. The tool ships with the brand’s proprietary REDLITHIUM batteries, an improved POWERSTATE brushless DC motor, and REDLINK PLUS Intelligence that the company says enables what the company calls, “full-circle communication between the saw and battery” for improved performance, safety, and job site productivity.
The new breaking grinder offers four variable speed settings between 3,000 and 9,000 rpm. A barrel grip and compatibility with Milwaukee’s One-Key security network, smart features like inventory control, and customization options are standard.
Milwaukee recommends that this grinder be used with a FORGE 8Ah battery or greater.
