Samsung Electronics has detailed plans to create an AI megafactory in partnership with Nvidia, aiming to integrate AI across its manufacturing chain.

The facility will use more than 50,000 Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs) to embed AI capabilities into all aspects of semiconductor production, from design and process management to equipment operations and quality assurance.

Samsung expects the AI megafactory to enable continuous analysis and optimisation of production environments in real time.

It plans to scale the AI factory across its global manufacturing network using Nvidia accelerated computing infrastructure.

The company will also deploy digital twin technology using Nvidia Omniverse libraries for simulating fabrication operations, anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, and production optimisation prior to implementation in physical environments.

Sites including Samsung’s facility in Taylor, Texas, are set to be included in this rollout.

Both firms are working with electronic design automation (EDA) partners to develop GPU-accelerated EDA tools fit for next-generation design requirements.

Samsung’s proprietary AI models, which are built on Nvidia accelerated computing and the Megatron framework, are deployed across more than 400 million of its devices. They are also integrated into its manufacturing systems for applications including real-time translation and multilingual processing.

For robotics and automation, Samsung is leveraging platforms such as the Nvidia RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition and Jetson Thor.

The integration connects virtual simulation data with real-world operations, supporting intelligent task execution and safety controls in robotic systems.

In process optimisation, Samsung reported a twentyfold increase in computational lithography performance using Nvidia cuLitho and CUDA-X libraries for optical proximity correction.

This allows for rapid AI-driven pattern prediction and correction during chip manufacturing, reducing development cycles.

Samsung, along with Nvidia and South Korean telecom operators, academia and research institutions, is advancing AI-RAN communication technology. This approach embeds AI computation within mobile networks to support robots, drones and industrial equipment performing inference tasks close to the network edge.

2024’s proof-of-concept combined Samsung’s software-based network with Nvidia GPU technology for initial demonstrations.

Their partnership began more than 25 years ago with Samsung DRAM in Nvidia graphics cards and now includes work on advanced memory such as HBM4.
