It’s not much of a stretch to say creativity is in large part about being curious and curiosity is very likely to provoke creativity.
I’ve been feeling a lot of both recently. A combination of things that have been happening, historical associations with November as a creative time, like all my Nanowrimos, and trying to ward off the encroaching winter blues.

This weekend I went to the local print workshop’s fair. It was very cool! Bought some fun prints and talked to some nice people and was even more encouraged to do a class. I just love typography. Even though I am terrible at design and art and such things. I miss the long s and proper ligatures. Look at these beauties in Futura Ligatures Postcard.
On the subject of type and printing I went down one of those Wikipedia rabbit holes. I’ve also been doing some reading about witches, and highwaywomen/men, and trying to perfect my seventeenth-century English writing style. I made a thing - not really a zine, but printed. A pamphlet about a highway(wo)man, and a poster about witches. It’s for my writing group, this month’s prompt is in theory ‘satire’. They aren’t very satirical. Unless poking fun at the patriarchy is satire.
To get myself more in the mood I put up some string lights to stave off the darkness. And lit a candle - I keep being given candles but they are mostly decorative. Going on walks in the evenings is one of my favourite ways to get the creative juices flowing. There’s been some excellent music this week too. It all helps.
So, upcoming.
- A post about mushroom photography and microhobbies got me all geared up on the subject so I’m writing my own and I’ve even put a couple of my own mushroom snaps in.
- More generally then: trying new things. Things I’ve tried, things I want to try, things I want to try doing more of.
- Which involves: getting out of my comfort zone. Dragging myself kicking and screaming out of my comfy cave but also I know how important it is to do.
- I’ve also been thinking about what to learn next. A course to do, in a slightly more formal way.
And this is something new, too. Planning things out and running with a theme.
