Okay this is a test. I’m currently writing this inside the Vim text editor. I really like how this looks. It’s one giant blue screen being painted with white monospace text. Okay this is a test. I’m currently writing this inside the Vim text editor. I really like how this looks. It’s one giant blue screen being painted with white monospace text. I still don’t understand all the Vim commands but I really like how this feels compared to writing in something like Google Docs or Microsoft Word.
Over the past year I’ve started writing everything in either markdown or plain text because of how durable and portable the files are.
Anyway, this genuinely feels like a digital typewriter. I love that there are zero buttons on the screen. It really helps me focus on only the words. And even though what I feel like what I’m writing right now is terrible, I think it’s cool that I’ve configured Vim to feel like this.
Also, to make things even easier, I created a script that lets me type ’write (filename.md) into the terminal and it will instantly create or open a file in my dedicated /writing file.
I would love to write a first draft of a science ficiton novel completely inside the terminal. I think that would really help me as a writer get into that techno world I want to build.
I did think about taking a screenshot of my new writing environment to share with you, however, I won’t do that because I want to get better at painting with words.
So let’s make an attempt.
As I slap my fingers into my dust covered keyboard, I watch the screen as letters chase the flickering white rectangle that points out where the next letter will land.
I still don’t think the above is amazing but that’s why I’ve created an anonymous blog, so that I can practice in private.
