🤒 We’re still not free if sickness. Nelson suffered high fiver and had stomach complaints and I got invited to his party, feeling some slight sickness again. This is my third consecutive week I’m struggling so I decided to visit the doctor. Just like with my data, all signs were looking ok, but to be sure, some blood samples were taken. Overall, it looks to be a severe viral infection the family is going through, and as I’m training heavily, I’m putting myself more at risk. I’ve been resting for most of last week, trying to get in as much sleep as possible. Let’s see whether this time I’m really ok before I head out for a run again.
🎉 With Marge and others of the family having their birthday closely together, we had a nice birthday celebration with the big family. I enjoy these moments together, talking and joking, while I walk around with my X100VI documenting family moments. It’s the only place where I feel it’s natural to have my camera with me. Other moments, like being out, at after-school activities, or just being at home, I don’t carry my camera, and that’s a pity as I enjoy holding and shooting with it. But I did take it with me when we went for a short walk together, shooting the nice landscape with the sun setting. Although this snapshot was shot with my phone for quick publishing, as the workflow with my camera takes more time.
📷 Speaking of camera workflow. As I document family life, travel, ... I have a lot of photos to process at times. And unfortunately, I have been post-posting that task for quite some time. Some albums of 2024 weren’t published yet on my family smugmug. But just as I had been postponing this task, I easily got started with it last week, and I’ve almost completely caught up to the present day. And I enjoyed it, going through all shots I took. So a reminder to myself, not to keep postponing this, as it helps me enhance my review and photography overall.
🚀 As the boys were home yesterday, instead of boy scouts, and the weather wasn’t great to do a lot outdoor, we enjoyed ourselves with scientific experiments. The water bottle rocket was probably the best and most fun, pumping a bottle full of air until it launches 5-6m in the air, to do it again and again afterwards. I’m definitely try to find more of these experiments to keep us busy.
📧 I’m continuing my migration to Proton, and wrote about the why in Protecting your email identity with free tools (Proton, Duck, Mozilla, Addy) 📱. Have a look at it and why I suggest to at least use aliases to keep your email identity secured and safe.
📺 Watched
📺 Vikings, and restarted with The Diplomat after its good reviews.
🎞️ We continued watching The Brutalist, but are not finished yet.

📱 Apps in focus
Dark Reader (Browser plugin). With dark times (winter) ahead, I regularly open my laptop and almost get blinded by the bright background of websites that do not adapt according to my system settings. That’s where Dark Reader comes in handy tinting all websites to a dark colour scheme. Nice thing is that you can either set a schedule when dark mode should be active, or you can have it match your system theme.
Harper (Browser plugin). I’ve been using Grammarly for a long time, but recently stumbled on Harper which is a free English grammar checker that runs on-device. I doesn’t highlight everything that Grammarly does, but it’s also not as in your face with its suggestions. I like it.
