More leaves and trees are turning from green to orange. On a walk earlier today, I looked around with awe as I noticed more leaves are turning yellow and red and orange. I even saw one tree that is almost entirely red! In spring, the tree blossoms a delightful pink; in autumn, it is red. It is a delight to see the tree change as the seasons pass.
I read earlier this week that autumn may be particularly colourful this year here in the UK because of the warmer summer, for which I am excited. I have plans to walk on a particular journey where, in autumn, there are many trees there that turn wonderful colours. I…

I read earlier this week that autumn may be particularly colourful this year here in the UK because of the warmer summer, for which I am excited. I have plans to walk on a particular journey where, in autumn, there are many trees there that turn wonderful colours. I realised I haven’t been on that walk since last year. Time flies.
I spent this morning continuing to read Sir. Tim Berners-Lee’s new book, This is for Everyone. I am thoroughly enjoying the book. Some of the stories in the first few chapters are familiar from his first book, Weaving the Web, but I am learning so much about the environment in which the web was invented and various stages of its growth that was not covered in the first one. I am particularly looking forward to the later chapters in which at least one the topic of machine learning is discussed.
I am less than half-way through the book; I hope to keep reading over the coming week and see how far I can get. am not a particularly fast reader; Saturday mornings are the time I like to spend reading (with a coffee by my side!). This week I have also been reading ~10 pages a day in the morning, excited both by this particular book and also the prospect of building a new routine around reading.
I spent this afternoon doing some coding. I have had an idea for a while to build a tool that converts ics
(iCalendar) files to a h-feed
. This is a very specific conversion, but one that would allow me to subscribe to a calendar file in my web reader, Artemis. With this format conversion logic, I hope to have a solid foundation upon which I can start experimenting with designing calendar user interfaces. I have come to appreciate text lists more. What could a more plain-text agenda for the day look like? I wonder.
This week I have been thinking a lot about balance, between technology and writing and many other parts of my life. I have been writing more about technology of late because that is what has been on my mind, although I have started to feel once again that I would like to write something more introspective. This post is in the middle: part diary, part technology. This post maybe leans more toward a diary of my day than previous posts; exploring new creative mediums is fun. I have found myself wanting to get out of my comfort zone more of late; to try more new things.
On the topic of trying new things, I am doing an online Introduction to Art History course with the V&A for the next two months. I signed up for the course a few months ago but forgot until this week, when I got the notification that the course starts next Tuesday. Among the highlights of this year has been my time spent in galleries looking at and thinking about art, which is why I decided to sign up. I am really looking forward to learning in a structured course, and to be able to use the knowledge on future gallery trips.
The clouds are grey outside, but the trees are radiant. Today I am weaving between reading and coding and reflection and everything else one does on a Saturday morning with no plans other than to relax. There is a video game I want to try – Coffee Talk – although admittedly I am tired. Perhaps I will make dinner then watch some television.
