The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has voted to advance a new complete streets project in unincorporated South Whittier, Supervisor Janice Hahn announced this week.
The South Whittier Community Bikeway Access Improvements project, which will adjoin the cities of Santa Fe Springs and La Mirada, calls for 8.4 miles of new bike lanes and other upgrades on stretches of Valley View Avenue, Leffingwell Road, Leland Avenue, and Ceres Avenue.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has voted to advance a new complete streets project in unincorporated South Whittier, Supervisor Janice Hahn announced this week.
The South Whittier Community Bikeway Access Improvements project, which will adjoin the cities of Santa Fe Springs and La Mirada, calls for 8.4 miles of new bike lanes and other upgrades on stretches of Valley View Avenue, Leffingwell Road, Leland Avenue, and Ceres Avenue.

“We are not only adding bike lanes—we are repairing and expanding sidewalks for pedestrians, adding trees, and improving signage to make our community safer and more accessible for everyone. This project is a major investment in a better quality of life for South Whittier and its neighbors,” said Hahn in a news release.
Plans call for 4.6 miles of Class II bike lanes along Valley View from Telegraph Road to Imperial Highway, as well as on Leffingwell between Imperial Highway and La Mirada Boulevard. Roughly 3.8 miles of Class III lanes are planned along Leland between Leffingwell and Florence Avenue.

Other planned improvements include pavement resurfacing, wayfinding signage, new curb bulb-outs, sidewalks, curb ramps, landscaped medians, and new traffic signals.
Work on the $27-million effort is expected to commence in July 2026 and be completed by January 2028.
