The lightweight Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE), a continuation of the classic KDE 3.5 desktop, designed for users who value traditional layouts without the overhead of modern desktop shells, has announced the release of version 14.1.5, the fifth maintenance update in the R14.1 series.

Additionally, updates to the TQt toolkit resolve event loop handling bugs that previously caused 100% CPU usage under specific conditions, ensuring smoother and more efficient performance.
The KDesktop component also receives stability improvements, addressing cases where the screen lock could become unresponsive. The Kicker panel benefits from aesthetic refinements and additional configuration options, while KRDC, the remote desktop client, now lets users send clipboard content as text via a new paste command.
Under the hood, TDE R14.1.5 introduces support for OpenLDAP 2.5, adds libgpgme 2.0 support in TDEPIM, and fixes usability issues in ShowFoto. A refreshed set of TDE-branded icons and artwork arrives with a new “Flying Konqi” wallpaper.
This release also refreshes the project’s distro compatibility list.
- openSUSE: Adds support for Leap 16, drops Leap 15.5.
- Debian: Adds support for Trixie, drops Buster.
- Ubuntu: Adds support for Questing, drops Mantic.
- RHEL: Adds support for RHEL 10, while dropping support for Fedora 41.
Lastly, the Trinity R14.1.5 release also addresses a range of stability and performance issues. Key fixes include:
- Visual fixes in ShowFoto and BibleTime, and crash resolutions in Amarok and KPDF.
- A long-standing CPU overuse bug in the TQt event loop, which could cause 100% usage under specific conditions.
- A deadlock issue in KDesktop previously caused the lock screen to become unresponsive.
- A crash fix for TDERandRTray when displays were reconnected.
- Compliance updates are making the TDE XSession name XDG-specification-compatible.
