I was thinking about how to make my blog multilingual, because even though I really like having content in English, sometimes I’d like to write things in Spanish... or maybe in the future in Japanese, who knows?
Previously, I had the tagging system suggested by Herman in the documentation; however, I’m not entirely convinced by it, because there are parts of the blog that remain in the original language, without being able to make the whole site switch languages, though that wasn’t a big deal.
On the other hand, this made the main RSS feed mix everything together, and that did bother me, because I follow some multilingual blogs that blend all kinds of languages in their feed, and I have to skip all the content I don’t understand, never knowing if I’m missing something important or not.
So, I’ve decided to set up another website, identical to this one, but only in Spanish: es.melvinsalas.com. Although the idea of editing and styling two identical sites feels a bit tedious, it doesn’t look bad at all, those who want to read only in Spanish will go there, those who don’t will stay here, and if someone reads both, I invite them to add both sites to their RSS reader.
