Video has been released by ProRail of a train slamming into an 18-wheeler Thursday at a secured level crossing on Bredestraat, causing five injuries in Meteren, Netherlands.
In the aftermath, the rail manager issued a warning to both truck and bus drivers to take extra caution as they cross a railroad, saying, “The footage shows how quickly things can go wrong at a railway crossing and is shocking to watch,” per local outlet NL Times.
Taking place around 11:30 a.m., footage of the scene shows the truck beginning to cross the railroad, however, it then starts to brake and reverse, with the driver apparently trying to avoid traffic.
The truck appears to get stuck, even breaking off one of the crossing guards in an attempt to get out of the way of the roaring train, but just seconds later, the 18-wheeler was blasted.
WATCH:
All placed in the truck, five people were hurt in the accident, though all injuries were minor. It’s not known whether or not they were sent to the hospital. The train was carrying around 200 passengers, ultimately being evacuated and transported to Den Bosch station, according to NL Times.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by ProRail, with the company also making repairs.
“The damage to the track is incredibly extensive,” said the rail manager, per the outlet. “A kilometer of track needs to be replaced. The repair will continue well into the weekend.”
The footage of the accident was released by ProRail for the purpose of behavior improvement at crossings.
