ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A massive fire ripped through a three-story residential building under construction off of Bayshore Blvd. Northeast last evening, challenging St. Petersburg Fire Rescue crews who worked through the night to bring the blaze under control. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the large structure fully engulfed in flames.
Fortunately, the building was unoccupied at the time of the incident, and there were no immediate reports of injuries.
The primary concern for fire crews upon arrival was preventing the fire from spreading to surrounding residences.
Firefighters immediately deployed to protect nearby homes, using their training and coordinated strategy to establish a defensive perimeter. Thanks to their quick and effective efforts, one neighboring building sustained only minor damage from radiant heat, demonstrating the successful protection of nearby property.
The intensity of the fire necessitated the use of aerial units, which attacked the blaze from above to safely and efficiently control the spread. Crews remained on the scene and worked throughout the night to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and the area was secured. The fully involved structure suffered extensive damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by fire officials.
