In fact, Koivun has been mooted as a genuine threat to Scottie Scheffler’s dominance on the PGA Tour.
PGA Tour players are said to be convinced that Koivun is the real deal, and given his talent and frightening potential, there’s every reason to think that the 20-year-old will become a regular winner on Tour when he turns pro.
However, to win as much as Thomas did before he turned 30 will be an extremely difficult thing to do for the Auburn University student.

Thomas is an unbelievable golfer, so Koivun should be flattered by any comparisons between him and the two-time major winner.
However, is that how he really feels?
Jackson Koivun gives his honest opinion when asked if he’s happy to be compared to Justin Thomas
Koivun earned his PGA Tour card for the 2026 season through the PGA TOUR University Accelerated programme.
However, he has made the decision to refer his PGA Tour membership for a year in order to play college golf at Auburn during his junior year.
That was a really smart call from Koivun. He has the world at his feet and many years ahead of him on the PGA Tour.
During an appearance on the No Laying Up Podcast, Koivun was asked which current PGA Tour player he thinks he’s most alike.
He said: “That’s a tough question.“
It was put to him that perhaps Justin Thomas would be a good comparison.

Koivun replied: *“*I would definitely say I’m a good putter, that would be one of my strengths. I loved practicing putting, I hate missing putts. It’s something I always try to perfect and it’s very hard to do.
*“*I’d say I’m pretty strong off the tee. Distance-wise, there are a lot of guys who are further than me, but I would say I’m pretty smart off the tee and I hit it fairly straight.
*“*My iron play is fine but it can always get better and I can always get better at short game. That’s another thing that guys do out there so well, their chipping is unreal, and that’s definitely something I can improve on
“If you want to compare me to JT, I’ll take that in a heartbeat.“
Justin Thomas’ PGA Tour record in numbers
Thomas has actually only won one tournaments since his PGA Championship victory in 2022.
However, there aren’t many players on the PGA Tour who have won more than him over the past eight or nine years.
Here are his career results on the PGA Tour:
Koivun clearly has the talent and potential to match Thomas’ record over the next 10 years or so.
However, Thomas’ incredible career thus far should not be taken for granted. 16 wins by the age of 32 really is hugely impressive, especially with two majors among his collection.
