Al Horford’s offensive performance has grown thanks to his new best partner on the Warriors
The two-way performance provides relief after struggles following the season’s second game against Denver.
One primary reason for the breakthrough involves finding the perfect on-court partner: Jimmy Butler. Butler assisted on four of Horford’s field goals, suggesting developing chemistry between the two veterans.
They appear to share innate court awareness, with Butler instinctively locating Horford for quality looks. The connection has unlocked Horford’s offensive confidence after weeks of inconsistent production.
After the game, Horford credited Butler’s deliberate effort to involve him in the offensive flow.
“I think Jimmy right away made it a clear point to look for me, and he had layups, and he’s looking out to kick it out and encouraging me to shoot the ball. The passes are there,” Horford explained.
“So, I credit a lot of that to him, to kind of getting me going offensively. And then on the defensive end, I’m trying to play with more energy and be more active and just kind of figuring that out,” he added.
Limited Jimmy Butler-Al Horford minutes suggest adjustment needed for optimization
Interestingly, through Horford’s 150 minutes with the Warriors, he’s shared the court with Butler for just 78 minutes. Nearly half of Horford’s playing time has occurred without his most effective partner.
This split might explain why the former Boston Celtics center has struggled integrating into the Warriors’ system. The chemistry requires repetition and shared minutes to develop fully.
Horford arrived in the Bay Area with substantial expectations as a key addition to the championship roster. Steve Kerr should prioritize playing this combination more frequently to maximize their potential.
The Warriors need Horford’s addition to succeed for their championship aspirations to remain viable and they might just have found the recipe to make it happen.
