Reggie Miller thinks Joel Embiid’s minutes restriction is going to last for the rest of the season
The 76ers added Embiid to their injury report with “right knee soreness” on Tuesday, ruling him out for their game against the Boston Celtics.
Embiid missed most of the last two years due to a left knee issue after tearing his meniscus midway through the 2023-24 season.
That required a follow-up scope last season after he was limited to just 19 games.
The 76ers were hoping that Embiid would be able to get on the floor more regularly, but now he finds himself dealing with an issue on his right knee.
The 76ers are likely going to continue to be cautious with Embiid going forward.
Reggie Miller thinks Joel Embiid’s minutes restriction is going to last for the rest of the season with the hope that he’s fully healthy come April or May.
“He’s the key, he’s still on a minutes restriction. I think that’s going to be the masterplan going forward for the rest of the season.
“I think the Sixers are in this situation, damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If you increase his minutes now and he gets hurt, everyone’s going to jump up in arms and be like ‘we told you to put him on a minutes restriction’.
“And if he’s on a minutes restriction, you’ve got the player Embiid crying about playing more minutes.
“This is the safe approach. He’s injury-prone. You want to have the healthiest version of Joel Embiid come April or May.”
Nick Nurse gives update on Paul George
The 76ers have been without Paul George for the entirety of the season.
George missed his 11th straight game against the Celtics as he is working his way back from offseason arthroscopic knee surgery.
George met with the doctors over the weekend and head coach Nick Nurse provided the latest.
“He has been looked at this weekend.
“He also has a doctor and the surgeons here this evening as well to go over that as well.
“So, again, we’ll have some more info on where he is and his status shortly.”
The 76ers are hoping to have Embiid and George fully healthy for a potential playoff run.
