I’ve made these two projects for testing adoption by the dog and efficiency in controlling odor.
The option with the drain works much better from a maintenance perspective. We just need to add a 50-50 mix of water and vinegar every day or two on top of it and the urine odor vanishes.
The underneath reservoir was custom made by a gutter company. I just needed cut a hole in it and install the drain duct, which now I’m going to extend until it reaches the floor drain itself.
This equipment has replaced the pee pads we used to have in the same place. Their biggest problem was constant maintenance, (low) effectiveness and the problem in windy days when they would fly around tainting the whole balcony with urine and poo.
The box eliminated all the problems.
