I’m still trying to figure out what the “format” of this blog will be and I have no idea. Sometimes I have things to say that don’t neatly fit under a single “title.” (In fact blogging systems that require post titles is one of my huge pet peeves.) For now I’ll just a create a single post on these days that will group a bunch of disparate stuff that i find within a single “day’s” post.

I consider Erin Kissane’s extremely thorough reflections on where Bluesky (both the community and company) finds itself after recent moderation troubles and the Trump administration’s incursion of dis-information accounts a must-read if you are a social media/microblogging platform observer. She’s more hopeful than I am that Bluesky’s “AT Protocol” infrastructure will lead to positive outcomes for social media users even if Bluesky itself may struggle to meet that lofty goal. For example, the Blacksky folks are having a heck of time trying to decouple themselves from the centralized moderation choices Bluesky is making which seemed to be flaws baked into AT Proto’s design. Although it appears that Bluesky user “Link” - who was banned from Bluesky and that banned unintentionally cascaded over to Blacksky … has had their account restored on Blacksky at least?
It is also worth reading her companion piece “Clouded Skies for Open Networks” which talks a bit about the background that went into writing the above story and highlights some key sections.
I’m a fan of Fred again..’s ever shifting blend of UK Garage, hip-hop, ambient, and whatever else catches his ear. Today Fred did a back-to-back set with Caribou & Floating Points on NTS Radio and a fan was nice enough to upload a recording. I like that they challenged themselves to do a “drumless” set which made for some really fun-weird vibes (though they acknowledged that occasionally their music choices had percussive instruments in them still, like pianos.)
