There’s a strange thing happening in AI right now.

You might’ve heard some claims that we’re in an AI bubble, the economy might be doomed, or from the other side that AI is about to revolutionize the world and AGI is right around the corner.

In trying to make sense of the situation, I’ve come to believe these things:

  1. LLMs will continue to improve – we’re not hitting a “wall”.
  2. LLMs will soon be generating trillions of dollars of economic value in the world.
  3. The valuations of big labs are too high even if they produce trillions in economic value, unless they capture significant portions of that value.

I see two paths where an AI lab could achieve their current speculative …
