and limitation contradicts infinitude.
What we perceive as creation, multiplicity, or individuality is only due to MAYA, the mysterious power that projects the One as the many, without ever truly altering the substratum.
Why then the world is spooked by Hinduism, the reasons **
are historical, cultural, and psychological, not philosophical:
1. #SanatanaDharma defies exclusivity. Most world religions are built on duality, a personal God distinct from creation and the soul, and a clear line between believer and non-believer. Advaita’s assertion that **
everything is divine and all paths lead to the same truth undermines rigid religious hierarchies. It is too vast, too inclusive, to be “owned” or systematized and hence, unsettling to exclusivist systems.
2. Its subtlety challenges the intellect. Advaita’s vision of the **
Absolute-nirguna, without qualities, formless, eternal, pure, conscious, free, cannot be captured by conceptual thought.
Modern science, being empirical, is uncomfortable with that which transcends subject-object cognition.
Western philosophy, too, stops at dualistic **
rationalism. Hence, they often misread it as mysticism rather than metaphysics.
3. It dissolves power structures. The doctrine of Oneness renders meaningless all divisions of race, class, or religion. The Upanishadic idea that “Aham Brahmāsmi” (I am Brahman or Infinite) places **
the humblest individual on par with the highest deity. Historically, such egalitarian spiritual insight threatened political and religious establishments built on authority &control.
4. MAYA unsettles material certainty. To the scientific and materialist mindset, calling **
the phenomenal universe “unreal” is heretical for it implies that empirical observation is not ultimate truth. But Advaita doesn’t deny the world; it relativizes it. It says the world is real as appearance, but not as absolute existence. **
5. It bridges #science and #spirituality, yet transcends both. Hindu seers saw consciousness as the ground of existence centuries before modern quantum physics began questioning objectivity.
But because Hinduism doesn’t separate metaphysics from inner realization, it **
requires self-transformation, not just intellectual understanding. That demand for inner evolution makes it inaccessible to those seeking mere theoretical comfort.
The world is awed & unsettled by the depth of #hinduism. It invites the seeker to go beyond belief into direct **
experience. And that journey from multiplicity to UNITY, from appearance to essence is not for the faint-hearted. Advaita #Vedanta and modern #physics almost meet, though the Hindu seers reached there through PURE CONSCIOUSNESS rather than instruments. #Christianity #Islam **
