Aquarium fish that can live for 10 years or more
If you’re setting up your first aquarium and want fish that are both stunning and long-living, then you are at the right place. With the right care and diet, some freshwater fish species can live for 10 years or more — thus offering not only years of beauty to the place where they are kept but also companionship to their owners. While fish keeping is a demanding hobby, it is also greatly rewarding and fulfilling as an experience. And so, here we list some such fish:

So pair them with peaceful tank mates.

Goldfish are omnivores and so, they need a balanced diet of pellets, veggies, and the occasional treat to stay healthy.

One of the most popular freshwater aquarium fish, Betta fish are known forr their vibrant colours and flowing fins. These are hardy fish that can live up to 10 years with proper care and diet— which is far longer than most people expect. Because of their territorial nature, they’re best kept alone or with carefully chosen tank mates that are peaceful in nature.
6/6
Plecostomus (Pleco)
Known as the “algae eater,” the Pleco is a wonderful addition to a freshwater tank and can live 10–15 years or more. These nocturnal fish help keep your tank clean by feeding on algae and leftover food. While small species like the Bristlenose Pleco are ideal for beginners, avoid larger types that outgrow standard tanks. They prefer driftwood, hiding spaces, and moderate lighting. Plecos are low-maintenance, peaceful, and add a unique look to your aquarium with their armored bodies and calm behavior — making them both practical and fascinating long-term tank mates.
