Tuta languages
You can use Tuta in more than 30 languages already. The language of the Tuta email client and apps is automatically defined by your browser or system settings. You can also switch the language under Settings - Appearance in your mail client.
The language of the Tuta website can be switched by clicking on the globe symbol in the bottom right corner.
Translation instructions
If you already are a translator, please follow the instructions below.
Once you have translated a key, please proofread it as well. As Tuta grows in functionality, we are adding texts continuously, so please check in regularly. Please check for untranslated keys as well as for fuzzy translations. Translations marked as “fuzzy” have been update in the original English version, which means that you must edit them in your language accordingly.
Style guide
During translation please try to keep the length of the text similar to the existing English and German versions. This will make the integration much easier. Also please make sure that you leave the placeholders in their predetermined position.
In the translation project ‘Tutanota’, which is for your Tuta mail client, we have only one placeholder (while n can be any given number): {n}. This placeholder needs to remain as it is and must not be changed.
In the translation project ‘Website’, we use markdown for formatting the texts on the website. Please make sure to leave any markdown symbols as they are. You can remember this easily by following these simple instructions:
Copy the English text into your translation. 1.
Only translate texts. These texts can also be within square brackets [ ] or within single or double stars **. 1.
Make sure that the markdown symbols from the English version match your translated texts exactly. 1.
Make sure NOT to translate placeholders. This is text within curly brackets within standard brackets ({DO NOT translate this placeholder}).
These placeholders lead to links or images and must remain exactly as they are in the translation.
Updated keys
From time to time, we need to update the English version of translation keys as Tuta evolves over time as well. These keys will then become ‘fuzzy’ in your language version to indicate that the key needs to be adapted.
